General Foreman

£60,000 - £70,000

Aylesbury

We are innovative - that’s why we need people like you to help us. People who enjoy finding new ways to solve problems and get things done!

We have an opportunity for an experienced General Foreman to join our team working on HS2 in Aylesbury. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys leading teams to deliver safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

As General Foreman, you’ll play a key role in managing site activities, ensuring all works are delivered on time, within budget, and in full compliance with Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental requirements. You’ll be the driving force in supporting our teams to achieve operational excellence and maintain our strong reputation for safety and delivery.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Site or Project Manager, you’ll provide hands-on leadership and day-to-day management of our construction workforce and subcontractors. You’ll take responsibility for coordinating resources, managing risk, and driving productivity, while supporting a positive safety culture across all site operations.

Here are some of the activities you’ll be involved in:

  • Managing daily site operations, labour, plant, and materials to meet programme and quality standards.
  • Acting as Principal Designer on-site, ensuring CDM compliance and overseeing design and RAMS approvals.
  • Promoting a proactive health and safety culture, demonstrating visible leadership and compliance with company policies.
  • Ensuring lifting activities and Temporary Works are properly controlled and meet all legislative requirements.
  • Coaching teams in health, safety, quality, and best practice to continually improve performance.
  • Managing and mentoring operatives and subcontractors, ensuring competence and compliance at all times.
  • Leading by example — encouraging hazard reporting and embedding a zero-harm culture.
  • Overseeing site documentation, including H&S plans, environmental plans, and quality records.
  • Managing plant, materials, and resources efficiently to support delivery against programme.
  • Maintaining accurate daily records, reports, and KPIs, contributing to weekly site reporting.

We’d love to hear from you if…

You’re an experienced leader with a strong background in civil engineering or utilities, ideally gained on major infrastructure projects. You’ll be confident managing people, planning workloads, and maintaining high standards of safety and quality across all aspects of site delivery.

You bring solid technical knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations, deep excavation and temporary works experience, and the ability to identify and resolve challenges quickly and effectively. You’ll demonstrate commercial awareness and a clear understanding of cost management, productivity, and performance.

Strong communication and organisational skills will be key to your success, along with the confidence to lead, coach, and motivate your team to deliver safely and efficiently. You’ll be comfortable using digital tools, including Microsoft Office applications and smartphone-based site systems, to manage day-to-day reporting and coordination.

You’ll ideally hold NRSWA, SSSTS, and CSCS certification, with additional training such as Temporary Works Supervisor, Confined Spaces, or ILM Level 3 leadership qualifications being advantageous. Formal CDM training would also be beneficial.

A full, valid UK driving licence is essential for this role.
