Wentworth Club is one of the world’s finest private members Golf and Country Clubs, famous for its outstanding three Championship golf courses, in addition to a luxury Tennis & Health Club. The Club is surrounded and entwined within the Wentworth Estate, one of the most prestigious private estates in the London suburbs where many of the world’s premier golfers have their home.

As the Financial Controller you will oversee all financial and accounting operations across different RIUK entities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with regulations, while also managing budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, risk management and external reporting and compliance. You will work closely with the Finance Director and take on a broad hands-on financial role.

Full-time 40 hours per week, hybrid working model.

Key duties and responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Accounting

  • Preparing and reviewing financial statement (monthly, quarterly and annual).
  • To proactively work with the small finance team to support and drive an effective financial management system for multiple business units; ensuring that best practice control and accounting systems and procedures are maintained in line with RIUK company standards and expectations.
  • Managing the general ledger and ensuring accurate accounting distributions.
  • Overseeing accounts payable and receivable
  • Help produce, analyse and review Monthly Management Accounts, ensuring that they compile to RIUK company standards, according to the RIUK financial time-table and are in line with budgeted and forecasted performance. Investigate and analyse any variances.
  • To provide accurate financial management information and advice to the Finance Director on the business units performance and compliance to RIUK Standards and Procedures.
  • Develop financial systems and processes to support continuous improvement.
  • Support internal and external compliance and auditing procedures as well as end of year tax compliance.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Working closely with finance leadership in the budgeting and forecasting process. Issue instructions, timetable and templates, review returns and consolidate forecast.
  • Analysing variances and providing insights to the Finance Director, supporting strategic financial planning.
  • Ensure Year End Accounts are submitted in line with RIUK financial timetable. Review against budget and challenge variances. Consolidate and provide a summary report to Finance Director
  • Support in managing the short and medium cash flow processes, providing analytical support and business insight, evaluating business opportunities / risks, assisting and driving finance transformation and establishing key relationships with finance teams.

Team Leadership and Management

  • Work alongside the subsidiary Finance team to report and monitor business performance. Reviewing P&L, Balance Sheet submissions, Cash-flow forecast, etc.
  • Analyse current and past trends in short and medium-term cash flow
  • Analyse complex financial information and reports to provide accurate and timely financial recommendations to Finance Director for decision making purposes
  • Ad hoc analysis/reporting/projects when required
  • Support financial control and process improvement and implementation
  • Review and analysis of the rolling costs forecast by function
  • Helping to create return on investment modelling to support investment cases


Audit Coordination

  • Assisting the Finance Director and acting as point of contact for external auditors.
  • Managing the audit process and ensuring timely completion.
  • Staying up to date with changes in financial regulations and accounting standards.
  • Conducting financial analysis and providing recommendations to management.

Key Competencies

  • Fully qualified accountant (CA, ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
  • Minimum 5 years working experience in progressively responsible financial leadership roles, including experience of providing Financial Experience in controlling across a group of companies, preferably gained from golf or hospitality industry, audit firm and Asia company will be priority considered
  • Strong analytical and communications skills, and with good business sense
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
  • Excellent knowledge of SAP systems will be priority considered
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • High detail oriented and outstanding organisational and planning skills
  • Good work ethic, diligence, enthusiasm, loyalty and responsible attitude
  • Demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent time management skills
