Wentworth Club is one of the world’s finest private members Golf and Country Clubs, famous for its outstanding three Championship golf courses, in addition to a luxury Tennis & Health Club. The Club is surrounded and entwined within the Wentworth Estate, one of the most prestigious private estates in the London suburbs where many of the world’s premier golfers have their home.

We are looking to add to our team of Senior Greenkeepers. To act as a supervisor of the team, supporting the Deputy Course Manager, by leading by example and encourage the highest standards of greenkeeping is delivered by all members of the team always.

Full-time 40 hours per week, salary plus paid overtime and BIGGA Membership.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Play an active part as a crew member on the course.
  • Have complete knowledge of the plant machinery used for specific tasks and ensure that they are utilised in the correct manner. This includes complying with the health and safety regulations at all times whilst in operation.
  • Ensure all areas are properly laid out and prepared for Members and visitors to the Club. A very high standard of presentation is required at all times.
  • Being a team leader of the course team. Deputising in the absence of the Courses Manager/ Deputy Course Manager and during weekends.
  • Take a leading role in projects
  • Correct calibration, mixing and applying of chemicals in accordance with current health and safety legislation.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge and awareness of current golf course chemical products available to the uk market.
  • Calibration and application of granular nutrients and soil amendments
  • Use of all golf course maintenance equipment
  • Collecting data and analysing the results to support future maintenance programs. Including stimp meter, clegg hammer, moisture reading and other data collection products available
  • Maintaining working knowledge of creeping bent greens, understand their properties and maintenance requirements
  • Maintaining full working knowledge of all sop’s required of your role always.
  • Ensuring you attend and participate in all training sessions required of your role including company and technical training.
  • Monitoring and maintaining health, safety and security in the workplace always
  • Responding to emergencies in a calm and professional manner, in-line with company procedures and ensuring correct follow up action is taken in the best interests of the health, safety and security of the business and its employees and Members.
  • Maintaining a sound and up-to-date understanding of water management.
  • Maintaining up-to-date awareness of modern greenkeeping practices along with new developments within the industry
  • Identifying And Controlling, weeds, pests, turf diseases and disorders. Sports turf grasses, Plants and trees
  • Marking of hazards, out of bounds and ground under repair
  • Undertaking routine machine maintenance
  • Preparing machinery for use
  • Preparing machinery for storage
  • Maintain awareness and understanding of the rules of golf relating to golf course maintenance

Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Passion for golf course maintenance and a desire to learn and develop in the field.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to perform strenuous outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Basic knowledge of golf and an understanding of golf course etiquette is desirable.
  • Be aware of modern greenkeeping practices, and alert to new developments with-in the industry
  • To be competent in the operation of greenkeeping machinery and maintenance practices
  • Minimum 3 years greenkeeping experience or 1 year experience with NVQ level 2 in greenkeeping (or equivalent) and a desire to continue professional development
