As Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for the physical well being of The Shepherd Mayfair from plant to MEP, building systems to compliance and decoration to a robust PPM program. In the lead up to the opening, you will liaise with the Project Management Team, Contractor, Architect and Designer and above property team, to learn how the ‘building ticks’, understand its intricacies, and prepare not just your team but the senior leaders for the opening.
Reporting to the General Manager [ with a dotted line to above property Engineering Leadership] and a member of the Hotels Guidance Team, you will lead by example and ensure there is a culture of authenticity, grace and warmth but also consistency and precision. You will work closely with the various Department leaders to ensure every aspect of the building is working correctly, to its fullest potential and looks great.
The ideal candidate should be | have led an Engineering team before or at the very least is a number 2 in a quality Hotel and have a minimum of two of the three below previous experiences | attributes:
- Opened a quality Hotel previously, not necessarily as the leader
- Has worked in a 5 Star | Luxury Hotel previously
- Has London Hotel experience
Responsibilities of the Chief Engineer will include but are not limited to:
• Plan, prioritise and lead preventative, reactive and emergency maintenance across the hotel, ensuring the building, plant and FF&E are maintained efficiently and costed, documented and recorded effectively.
• Establish a strong working relationship with the service Contract partners and various companies | vendors that support you and your team maintaining the building. Question and challenge where and when needed and hold these partners accountable if the performance is not timely or to standard. Regularly evaluate what the needs of the Hotel | Building are in terms of these partnerships.
• Manage utilities - Electricity and Water only, identifying opportunities for operational efficiency and energy conservation.
• Manage the departmental costs ensuring scheduling and resources are dispatched accordingly to support operational performance.
• Analysis the data and trends that the Engineering reporting system generates to plan proactive works and if need be Capex.
• Ensure compliance with all legislative and statutory testing | audits
• Establishing opportunities for improving operations consistently.
• Address guests' service needs in a professional, positive, and timely manner.
• Comply with quality assurance expectations and standards.
• Setting a clear example for all employees with regard to personal presentation and positive attitude.
• As a member of the Guidance team, you will help drive and lead the Hotel Culture which includes playing an active part in Employee Induction and other activities that involve team members not within your specific area of responsibility.
• Lead the recruitment of new talent within your area of responsibility and ensure that a robust yet flexible induction plan is created and followed
• You will produce the SOPs for and ensure that they become part of your teams | department Culture
• Lead Green Initiatives – established and created, and ensure their team is equally engaged. Represent The Shepherd Mayfair for above property Green Committee meetings and subsequent activities and actions.
• Lead all aspects of the technical elements of Fire Life and Safety including compliance, audits including FRA and ensure that without fail system testing happens weekly
• In the absence of the Safety and Security Manager, lead the Health and Safety committee
• Ensure that the Engineering Team is compliant; mandatory People and Culture trainings, weekly, monthly, bi-monthly and annual etc audits for Fire Life Safety, Health and Safety.
• Ensure all Plant and Engineering spaces including the office | workshop are clean and tidy.
• Actively contribute to and participate in weekly departmental walk arounds to the Hotel to ensure both Front and Heart of House are in the best possible condition.
