Design Manager

Design Manager

Design Manager · £55,000 + Company Benefits · Full Time · Kings Cross

London sets the stage for The Standard’s first European flagship, and since opening in 2019, The Standard, London has become one of the capital’s most architecturally distinctive lifestyle hotels.

Housed within the former Camden Town Hall Annex, this landmark 1970s Brutalist building was sensitively restored by Orms and reimagined internally by Shawn Hausman Design. Its uncompromising concrete façade contrasts with expressive, layered interiors that deliver colour, texture, and theatricality in equal measure.

From the iconic red-pill lift to guestrooms that blend mid-century references with playful detailing, design drives every touchpoint. Across 266 rooms and a collection of restaurants, bars, and rooftop spaces, the property balances architectural integrity with constant creative evolution. The Standard, London operates as a living design platform where architecture, interiors, culture, and nightlife intersect. It is both a hotel and a creative landmark.

We are now looking for a Design Manager who will embody our Anything but Standard ethos and help shape the next chapter of our London flagship.

Your role

As our Design Manager, you’ll partner with our General Manager, Senior Executive team, and our New York-based Corporate Design team to bring a wide range of interior design and creative initiatives to life across our London flagship.

As part of our senior team, you’ll take the lead on critical FF&E projects and refurbishment works, ensuring design concepts and interior schemes remain on brief, on time, and on budget. You’ll have creative responsibility for the ongoing evolution and staging of our guestrooms, suites, restaurants, bars, and public areas, making sure every detail feels considered, culturally relevant, and unmistakably The Standard.

Day-to-day, you’ll act as the go-to for all hotel design projects. You’ll develop scopes of work, manage RFP processes, build project timelines, and oversee supplier relationships. Working closely with our Engineering team and external consultants, you’ll ensure documentation is accurate, compliance requirements are met, and installations are delivered seamlessly within a live, high-volume environment.

Once projects are approved, you’ll manage procurement, coordinate deliveries, and oversee installations to ensure every element lands as intended with minimal operational disruption.

You’ll also be the guardian of our design ethos across the property, from furniture layouts and lighting schemes to styling details and seasonal updates. This includes regular walk-throughs of guestrooms and public spaces to maintain standards and identify opportunities for creative enhancement.

In partnership with Events, Marketing, and F&B, you’ll deliver distinctive finishing touches for launches, collaborations, and cultural activations that surprise and delight.

This is not a ‘Standard’ Design Manager position. You’ll need instinct, stamina, and the ability to translate creative vision into tangible spaces under pressure. You’ll thrive in a fast-paced, design-forward environment and feel as confident presenting strategy as you are being hands-on during installations.

Do you have what it takes to be our Design Manager at The Standard, London?

A minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in interior design, architecture, construction, or hospitality project management is essential, ideally within the London market and within a design-led or lifestyle environment.

  • Demonstrate a refined design sensibility supported by a portfolio of completed projects that showcase both creativity and technical competence
  • Possess solid knowledge of UK building regulations, compliance processes, and statutory approvals
  • Have experience managing refurbishments or construction projects within operational hotels or high-volume hospitality environments

  • Have strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
  • Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail alongside strong administrative and IT capability, including MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, and 3D design software such as SketchUp or Rhino

  • Have a flexible approach to working hours where project timelines and installations require
