Accounts Assistant
Numbers matter. Details matter. And behind every exceptional luxury hotel is a finance team making sure everything adds up.
We’re looking for an organised, commercially minded and detail-driven Accounts Assistant to join our Finance team at our prestigious five-star hotel and resort in the North East.
This is a varied, hands-on role for someone who enjoys getting into the detail, takes pride in accuracy and wants to be part of a fast-paced luxury hospitality environment.
Working closely with the Assistant Financial Controller, you’ll help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the Finance department, support the wider hotel operation and play an important role in delivering timely, accurate financial management information.
The Role
No two days in hotel finance are quite the same.
You’ll be involved across the Finance function, from daily banking, revenue auditing and reconciliations through to purchase invoices, VAT, balance sheet reconciliations and month-end.
You’ll also be a key member of the team, helping to organise priorities, supporting colleagues and bringing a positive, solutions-focused approach to everything you do.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Checking and reconciling daily banking against hotel takings
• Auditing revenue across hotel systems (Simphony, Premier & Opera) and investigating discrepancies
• Completing daily card payment and banking reconciliations
• Reconciling voucher sales and redemptions and identifying anomalies
• Carrying out departmental float checks
• Supporting accruals, prepayments and financial schedules
• Processing purchase invoices following appropriate checks and approvals
• Reviewing function and event information to ensure revenue is captured accurately
• Supporting month-end reconciliations and preparation of the month-end pack
• Assisting with VAT returns and Making Tax Digital requirements
• Completing and supporting balance sheet nominal reconciliations
• Providing support across Purchase Ledger and Sales Ledger when required
• Maintaining accurate financial records, filing and controls
About You
You’ll be someone who loves accuracy but understands there is a bigger picture behind the numbers.
You’ll be confident working with financial information, comfortable investigating discrepancies and able to manage competing priorities without losing attention to detail.
Previous experience within a hotel, resort or hospitality finance environment would be a real advantage, particularly if you have worked with hotel operating, point-of-sale or property management systems.
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who brings the right attitude: professional, dependable, collaborative and genuinely passionate about doing a great job.
You’ll ideally bring:
• Previous experience within a Finance or Accounts team
• Strong reconciliation and numerical skills
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Good Excel and general systems capability
• An understanding of financial controls and accounting processes
• The confidence to communicate with managers across different hotel departments
• A proactive, organised and hands-on approach
• The ability to work independently while being a strong team player
Experience with hotel systems such as Opera, Simphony and Premier, alongside knowledge of VAT and Making Tax Digital, would be advantageous.
Why Join Us?
This is more than an accounts role. You’ll be part of the team behind our luxury hospitality operation where Finance plays an important part in the success of the entire resort.
You’ll work alongside passionate hospitality professionals, gain exposure to a broad range of hospitality finance activities and have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and career within a high-end environment.
If you’re looking for a role where accuracy, teamwork and commercial thinking come together, we’d love to hear from you.
