About the Role

We're looking for a passionate and skilled Automotive Paint specialist to join our award-winning team at Gateshead College, one of the top-performing colleges in the UK.

Are you an experienced motor vehicle body repair and paint professional ready to take your next step and inspire future industry talent? Whether you're already teaching or looking to bring your expertise from industry into the classroom, we want to hear from you.

You will deliver engaging, practical, and theory-based sessions across Levels 1 to 3 in Vehicle Body Repair and Paint Refinishing, preparing our students for real world careers in the automotive sector.

What We Are Looking For
We welcome candidates with substantial industry experience in automotive paint refinishing. A teaching qualification is not essential, we will support the right candidate to achieve this as part of your development with us.

You Will Need

  • Expertise in automotive paint spraying and refinishing, including SMART repair and HVLP application
  • Solid knowledge of panel repair, filler work, dent removal, and surface preparation
  • Competency in colour matching, blending techniques, and paint mixing
  • Familiarity with waterborne and solvent-based paint systems
  • Strong awareness of health, safety, and environmental best practices
  • The ability to plan and deliver practical demonstrations in a workshop setting
  • Effective communication and coaching skills to support learners of varying abilities
  • A positive, enthusiastic attitude and a commitment to student success
  • Desire to inspire and mentor the next generation of automotive professionals

We'll provide comprehensive training and cover the cost of your qualification while you gain valuable teaching experience. Levelling Up Premium and Recruitment & Retention Payment

We understand the value of your expertise and are committed to rewarding your contribution with a comprehensive package designed to support your career journey and long-term success. An attractive recruitment incentive and an additional retention payment after one year in the role is available.

Eligible further education teachers in their first five years of teaching can claim up to 6,000 after tax from Autumn 2024. They should have a teaching qualification; be working towards a teaching qualification; or intend to do so in the next 12 months. The premium will also be available over academic years starting 2024 and 2025 where teachers meet eligibility criteria.

The premium covers those teaching specific STEM and technical courses in building and construction, computing (including digital and ICT), early years, engineering and manufacturing (including transport engineering and electronics), maths, physics and chemistry.
