Print Designer

High Wycombe, office-based c. 4 days per week

Mint Velvet began when founders Liz Houghton and Lisa Agar-Rea set out to create an unfailingly chic collection of contemporary, great quality staples and elevated fits that they felt were missing from their wardrobes. Feeling frustrated that they couldn’t find anything they wanted to wear, or the great customer service they craved, they started fusing relaxed comfort with glamorous yet wearable fashion trends. Relaxed Glamour was born.

As collaborative creatives, we take untold pride in our work, designing with heart and soul. We want to be a force for good and are committed to becoming a more circular and responsible business, from the fabrics we choose to our considered processes. We are an agile and growing business, and we work hard to create an environment which allows for growth and progression, balanced with the support and flexibility needed to meet the challenge of a high-performance culture.

Our leadership teams and founders sit amongst the teams and encourage a culture of balance and passion. MV is a very special place, and our values are anchored by three main pillars: people, planet, and community.

Our Values:
With Soul. Courage & Resilience. Passion & Drive. Entrepreneurial Spirit. Collaborative

As a Print Designer at Mint Velvet, you will design and develop prints and graphics for use across the range that deliver the key trends and the MV relaxed glamour ethos.

You will constantly source inspiration for the design direction of your area and the wider brand, developing these sources appropriately into designs for the perfect MV prints and graphics. With your impeccable eye and handwriting, you will drive newness and excitement in our print offering, ensuring that MV always anticipates and exceeds our customer’s expectations.

Your responsibilities will include:

Researching and Developing Trends

  • Visiting inspirational shops/markets/print fairs and other locations in the UK and abroad to research and progress ideas for print and product development, buying relevant samples and taking photos to illustrate findings
  • Keeping abreast of current and future trends for all areas by constantly reviewing appropriate sources in all media formats, recommending ideas, sharing relevant inspirational materials and responding to the relevant trends for your area
  • Contributing to the overall design strategy by providing visuals and trend information to the team to help build the overall seasonal trend picture, including global lifestyle and product trends, ensuring we are always evaluating and responding to newness throughout the season
  • Analysing the catwalk shows and summarising the key trends in your area; identifying and designing the Mint Velvet versions of key prints

Design Responsibility

  • Delivering the seasonal print trends; balancing fashionability and commerciality, whilst always aligning them with the brand handwriting
  • Designing a balanced range of prints, across colour, categories, style and technique. Ensuring that there is a mixture of graphic and painted prints
  • Working with the wider Design and Buying team to ensure choice and newness is offered in print as well as potentialising best sellers; identify and address missed opportunities
  • Racking your print range up regularly in order to review your range independently, identifying gaps and making a plan to resolve these
  • Creating colour boards for print colouration to be used across prints, constantly reviewing these to ensure they stay relevant
  • Preparing for design brainstorms, collating mood boards to illustrate new trends and print ideas for move-ons
  • Interpreting trends and developing prints without infringing copyright, design rights or trademarks
  • Presenting product to Management in print review, ensuring you present a compelling picture of the print vision, backing prints and graphics you feel strongly for
  • Supporting preparation for range builds, pulling relevant samples, hangers and strike offs together
  • Supporting the wider Design team by sharing responsibility for the organisation and upkeep of the studio
  • Helping mentor junior members of the product team, providing ongoing guidance, feedback and support
