Our Support Office a modern office located close to Old Street and Barbican in central London. This friendly open plan office houses several of the key support functions including Sales, Human Resources, Marketing and Central Revenue. Conveniently located with great transport links the office is the London base for the back office functions of Guoman and Thistle.

The Role

GLH Hotels is seeking an experienced Health and Safety Manager who will be responsible for providing strategic and technical support to the business at a corporate and operating unit level, to ensure effective management across key areas of operational compliance, including health and safety, food safety, fire safety, business continuity and crisis management.

As the largest owner and operator in London, with 17 hotels and 5000 rooms predominantly in Central London, as well as 130 meeting rooms, glh provides an opportunity to deliver your passion for Health and Safety to a geographically compact business, working closely with an internal customer base who are always looking to delight, and of course protect, their hotel guests.

We take the health and safety of our guests, staff and the general public very seriously and you will be expected to maintain and improve on our high standards. Reporting to the Executive team member responsible for compliance, you will have a direct route to the highest levels and your voice will be heard.

We are a relatively small (1700 employees) business with a flat organizational structure and everyone is expected to contribute. If you are commercial, know your health and safety really well and want to have an impact by making commercially sensible suggestions for better ways to work to improve on our goal, then this could present a great opportunity. If you want a job where you can hide behind bureaucracy and have your team to do all the work then this is not the role for you.

  • Main responsibilities:
  • Establishing and overseeing the implementation of systems, policies and procedures designed to ensure legal compliance, risk mitigation and operational business best practice.
  • Actively and visibly guiding, supporting and assisting all employees to develop and implement initiatives to continuously improve H&S performance in order to ensure a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible workplace.
  • Establishing developing and maintaining effective working relationships with appropriate functional and operational management and staff in order to ensure a coordinated approach to H&S issues across the company.
  • Monitoring performance against agreed KPIs and ensuring corrective action and appropriate reporting thereof is undertaken.

What we look for

  • A minimum of 5 year’s H&S management experience ideally within the leisure industry, or other relevant multi-site environment, with particular knowledge of food safety issues.
  • Up to date knowledge of both existing and impending H&S legislation with the ability to interpret and prioritise actions. This knowledge should include: licensing, health & safety at work, COSHH, environmental health, fire precautions, manual handling, food safety and any other relevant policies
  • Experience of encouraging a process of continuous H&S improvement and personal ownership.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Professional accredited/ membership relevant professional institute (IOSH or equivalent) would be ideal but not essential
