Senior Data Scientist - Commercial

We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Data Scientist to join our Commercial Revenue team based in our Central Support office, Gosforth. You will have the unique chance to apply your advanced analytical modelling and problem structuring skills to deliver incremental revenue. You will have a unique opportunity to design, trial and improve the analytical logic in the next generation of demand forecasting and price optimisation tools that are used by the revenue management team to manage holiday prices and optimise revenue across our 60+ holiday parks.

Job Description:

-Deliver incremental margin to Parkdean Resorts through identifying and quantifying opportunities to improve key revenue management processes and logic, and structuring approach and logic to deliver them:

  • From analysing current Parkdean Resorts processes
  • And from keeping abreast with industry forums (conferences / webinars etc)
  • Structure and perform complex analysis and quantitative modelling to inform new logic / alerts / reporting
  • Build prototype models to test new logic / alerts / reporting
  • Design and run trials with success measures to test options and select most beneficial ones to take into build ; and finalise business requirements for this purpose
  • -Work with system teams and contractors to build / productionise successful prototype tools, reports and alerts and evolve the revenue management systems to maximise revenue for Parkdean Resorts.

-Works with the wider revenue team to maximise revenue through centrally managing key system parameters and evolving and tailoring alerts, reporting and tools – actively pushing short term opportunities identified to the team.

-Ensure the existing revenue management systems logic adapts as the business evolves.

-Helps train the revenue team on using revenue management systems, reporting and alerts.

-Builds up and maintains in depth knowledge and understanding of complex revenue management pricing and availability logic and processes, including:

  • Revenue management principles, levers and techniques across pricing and availability
  • PDR specific revenue business model and logic in place to deliver it
  • Tools, key reporting and tools that are part of these processes
  • Keeping abreast with industry trends

Person Specification:

-Degree in Operational Research / Data Science / Applied Mathematics
-2 years+ experience of applying in a commercial environment highly desirable
-Problem structuring:

  • Ability to analyse processes and identify opportunities to improve them
  • Ability to break down a problem or opportunity into key factors, considerations and any assumptions required ; and structure solutions
  • Ability to structure approach to analysis, prototype tool logic and trials

-Commercial understanding:

  • Past experience / evidence of applying analytical techniques in a commercial environment to improve performance
  • Understanding of what factors affect the price of holidays
  • Past experience working with revenue management is not essential, but is beneficial

-Complex data analysis and analytical techniques:

  • Experience of working with SQL / SAS / R / other similar software to extract, manipulate, analyse and model large data sets from multiple sources
  • Experience of building analytical business models such as what-if models /simulation models / segmentations / forecasting models etc.
  • Evidence and qualifications in operational research / data science / applied/statistics / heuristics / stochastics
  • Experience in using MS Excel to visualise and report on data

-Communications and project management:

  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate clearly on complex / analytical issues including to a non-technical audience
  • Ability to create clear project plans and manage to these ; coordinating with others across the revenue team and with the systems team / external contractors
