How did your career journey lead you to your current role, and what experiences have shaped your leadership?

I began my career in HR over 20 years ago, progressing from an HR Administrator role to HR Director. Throughout this journey, I have worked across a range of industries and organisational cultures. Exposure to both highly effective and more challenging environments has been instrumental in shaping my leadership approach, reinforcing the value of strong principles, balanced people practices and inclusive, purposeful leadership.

What excites you most about working for Solid State?

The people and the opportunity to grow alongside the business. I work with highly committed, capable colleagues who are collaborative and values driven, which makes the work both engaging and rewarding. At the same time, Solid State’s growth ambitions create opportunities to contribute meaningfully, shape future ways of working and be part of an organisation that is evolving and investing in its people.

Which company values resonate most with you — and how do you bring them to life in your role?

All of our values resonate with me, but Respect and Integrity stand out most in my role. Acting with integrity and treating people with respect builds trust and fairness, and helps create a positive, inclusive culture across the business.

How would you describe the culture within your team and the wider organisation? What makes it positive or unique?

Our team culture is collaborative and supportive, strengthened by a diverse skill set and ways of thinking. This creates a positive and effective working environment, with strong relationships and an open, approachable dynamic.

What behaviours and qualities make someone successful in your team?

Successful team members demonstrate adaptability in their approach, applying sound judgement to different situations while recognising the organisation’s journey and context for change. They are comfortable constructively challenging existing ways of working, balancing progress with pragmatism. Strong collaboration, cooperation and a supportive mindset are essential to building effective relationships and achieving shared outcomes.

Why is Solid State a great place to build a long-term career?

Solid State is a strong place to build a long term career because it offers meaningful opportunities to grow alongside the business and play an active role in shaping its future. As the organisation continues to evolve, individuals are encouraged to develop their skills, take on new challenges and contribute to strategic progress. This creates a sense of purpose and ownership, where people can see the impact of their work over time and build a rewarding, sustainable career within the company.

What can new starters to the business expect to be involved in over the coming year?

New starters can expect to be involved in a period of change as the business embeds new systems, processes and ways of working, with opportunities to learn, adapt and contribute to how these evolve.

How does your team contribute to our goals, customers, and overall market success — and what impact are you most proud of?

We contribute to our goals by strengthening the end to end employee lifecycle and maturing our approach to people management.

We have deliberately shifted from a primarily transactional HR model to a more strategic, value driven people function. This journey has focused on maturing how we manage people — moving from individual discretion and informal practices to clearer, fairer and more scalable people processes that support both performance and engagement.

What I’m most proud of is the progress we’re making in taking managers on a journey — building confidence, capability and ownership of people leadership.
