What inspired you to join Active Silicon?

Prior to joining Active Silicon I worked at Catalyst International where sadly I was made redundant but was delighted to receive a phone call from them a few weeks later asking me back! However, I had already accepted a role at Active Silicon and was very happy.

Can you describe your career journey since joining?

When I started with the organization (18 years ago!) I started in Finance and was part of a company of approx. 20 employees. I worked closely with the MD who was also responsible for Finance, I wrote cheques to pay suppliers, sent sales invoices, logged purchase invoices, updated cashbooks, checked the bank accounts, helped with the VAT return, payroll and general finance administration.

Early on in my journey I took maternity leave. (Life happens!) So I have juggled working and bringing up two daughters, (I already had one when I joined) but Active Silicon has always been family friendly and so even as a working mother I managed to get to see every Christmas play, sports day and class assembly and I really appreciate that. Since joining, there have been many changes, and we are now approx 43 employees strong with 3 employees working in the Finance team. We work great as a team, we are a very small Finance team but together we get a lot of things done.

What do you enjoy most about working here?

I really enjoy working at Active Silicon because I still really enjoy the role and still love it when all the figures balance.

My colleagues/friends are helpful and welcoming and I love the flexibility of both working from home and going into the office.

I enjoy working with a fantastic Finance team but also enjoy working collaboratively as part of wider team.

What has been a memorable project or proudest moment so far?

As a member of the Finance team I have been very proud to be involved in automating many of our processes in particular moving from writing cheques to electronic payments, sending invoices by e-mail instead of post & persuading our suppliers to send their invoices by e-mail too!
