General Manager

Our most successful General Managers take a hands-on, collaborative and entrepreneurial approach to running their venues. They work with their teams to create and develop new opportunities, try out their ideas and take ultimate responsibility for driving their businesses forward and making them a success.

Due to no two sites being the same, we like our GMs to not only love, but also understand and run their businesses as though they were their own. We want them to find solutions rather than problems and when things don’t quite go according to plan; take the time to reflect. Learn. And take responsibility. Our motto is to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and try again.

We also expect our General Managers to take a hands-on approach to motivating and training their teams and therefore offer a training calendar packed full of courses and an abundance of tools to help them make it happen.

It might sound like we’re asking a lot, but there is an experienced support team on hand and we’re proud to invest heavily in supporting our people’s development through a variety of structured training programmes. Head Chef

Here at The City Pub Group there is no such thing as one size fits all, so we need our Head Chef’s to keep their finger on the industry-trends pulse and be the driving force behind the development of their kitchens.

Our Head Chefs are responsible for the overall running of their kitchen, which includes not only food quality, GPs, wages and hygiene but also the proactive development of their teams and overall kitchen performance. Our most successful Head Chefs are therefore highly organised with an eye for detail, passionate about what they do, and take a hands-on, collaborative approach to achieving success.

We want our Head Chef’s to motivate and train their teams and have created a Chef Academy to offer them tangible career pathways. They just need an ounce or two of passion, a sprinkling of guidance and lashings of training and support!

Assistant Manager

Here at The City Pub Group we recognise that our Assistant Managers play an integral role in both the success of our sites and the future of the business. We therefore invest in them heavily and do everything we can to help them become our General Managers of the future. Our hugely successful Management Development Programme (MDP) is now in its 4th year and has already equipped dozens of our senior AMs with all the necessary skills they require to take that all important step into their first GM role.

We expect our Assistant Managers to have a passion for service, a flair for training and developing their teams, and enjoy working collaboratively alongside their General Manager to make their business a success.

Sous Chef

Here at The City Pub Group we recognise that our Sous Chefs play an integral role in both the success of our sites and the future of the business. We therefore invest in our SCs heavily and do everything we can to help them become our Head Chefs of the future. Our Senior Chef Development Programme (SCDP) is now in its 2nd year and has already helped a number of our Sous Chefs take the exciting step into their first Head Chef role!

We expect our SCs to have a passion for service, a flair for training and developing their teams, and enjoy working collaboratively alongside their Head Chef to make their kitchen a success. They will be the HCs right hand, step-up during their annual leave and help manage menu development, control stock and make a valuable contribution to the overall kitchen performance.

Our Supervisors are our rising stars and - we hope - our future managers.

Here at The City Pub Group, our Chef de Parties are an integral part of our kitchen team who get to utilise and develop their skills whilst tangibly progressing their career. We invest heavily in our chef teams and offer everyone the opportunity to join our Chef Academy and gain further qualifications whilst working!

Front of House Team

Here at CPG, we’re all about putting our people first - whichever side of the bar you’re standing on. Due to none of our sites being the same, we’re able to offer a whole variety of roles, that includes shaking things up behind a cocktail bar, becoming a little bit beer bonkers, offering above and beyond table service, wowing people with wine knowledge, running events, taking control of our social media, serving up epic BBQs to the masses, and even hosting quiz nights!

So whether it’s full-time or part-time, a career pathway or stop-gap, we are a great place to learn, develop and make your mark! Head Office

Here at The City Pub Group we don’t consider ourselves as ‘Head Office’, but rather a support team. We’re the ones behind the scenes that are here to help our frontline teams make it happen.

Due to this, a lot of us don’t even have a desk! We prefer to be field-based, out in the sites, getting to know our people and ensuring we’re always on hand to provide support. However, to keep things ticking over we do have a central London HQ that provides a whole host of functions and operates an open door policy.

From marketing to finance, systems to people and Exec Chefs to Ops, we all take a collaborative approach to achieving great things, encouraging everyone to have their say and get involved.
