My name is Ian Melville. I am 32 yrs old, and joined Sports World a year ago. I was looking for a fast paced, exciting environment to work in, and I knew from shopping in our stores this was what I wanted to be a part of. From as early as the interview stage I liked what I heard about Sports World and knew this is where I wanted to work. I was offered a position as a Store Manager with the prospect of rapidly progressing to an Area position. This meant I could learn the business from a grass roots level up to the position I am in now, and this has been a big factor in helping me get to the position I am in now. As a Store Manager in Walsall I worked closely with my Area Manager, and gradually came out of store more and more, learning the role of an Area Manager. When the Crewe store opened I was responsible for managing Crewe and Walsall, closely supported by my Area Manager. When the Telford branch opened I was told that this would be my 3rd store to form my own Area. This was about 3 months ago, and I have just been given the responsibility of another 2 stores bringing my area up to a total of 5 stores. I have achieved this in 1 year with Sports World, and since joining have never looked back.
