The Imperial War Museum operates recruitment in line with current legislative guidelines,
good practice and with due diligence. Appointments will be made by fair and open competition
and selection on merit. The recruitment process involves a number of stages, and the
combination of stages varies depending on the post that is being filled.
You will enter the process once you have completed and submitted an online application form
and equal opportunities monitoring form. All recruitment exercises will include an online
application form unless otherwise agreed in accordance with the Disability Discrimination
Act 1995. A CV in itself will not be sufficient for your application to be considered, and
you should only submit a CV if you are explicitly requested to do so. Your application form
will be evaluated in order to assess your suitability for interview.
For certain posts, candidates may be invited to undertake a selection test or attend an
assessment centre. Any of the following stages may be used to consider your application
during this process (not necessarily occurring in the order given below):
- Short-listing using written tests, IT skills, typing, numeracy etc
- Job simulation exercises: in-tray exercises, presentations, group exercises etc
- Psychometric testing
- Interviews
The postings on the Current Vacancies page provide
details of the stages involved in the recruiting process, the job description, personal
specifications and any other relevant information.
For details of current vacancies across the UK's national museums, galleries, libraries and
archives go to the National Museum Directors'
Conference jobs website.
Please note: Vacancies marked as 'Internal only' can only be applied for by contracted
IWM staff. All other applicants, including fee paid staff and IWM volunteers, are not eligible
candidates.
